Rewiring 4 Reality: Cross-generational Reckonings builds on the work of the GTDF collective in service of intergenerational understanding, healing, and solidarity. It invites us to perceive, reflect on, and engage with what is unfolding within ourselves, our relationships, and the biosphere. By illuminating the deep patterns beneath surface phenomena, it helps us navigate complexity and paradox without becoming overwhelmed. Offering practical ways to bridge generational divides, it encourages us to approach societal challenges as opportunities for both inter- and intra-generational exploration.
If this were a video game, it might be one of those found objects that grants a special power for the next phase of the quest. Indeed, reading and engaging with its stories, thought exercises, and discussions can be challenging, instructive, and at times even playful. As an evolving intelligence shaped by those who interact with it, this work aspires to be a companion for those seeking to advance concerted action as allies of the Earth and the marginalized.
As a son, parent, and grandparent, I’ve witnessed how the generation we are born into shapes our life prospects, material well-being, and outlook on the future. And yes, we boomers have some hard listening and explaining to do. Alongside gratitude for the sacrifices that bequeathed us a world largely at peace, we hold responsibilities—of reconciliation and restitution toward those who have been colonized and exploited, and of care and service to those who come after us. Generation Z, now coming of age in precarious times, especially calls for our attention and commitment.
Whether engaging with this resource individually or in a group, the process of learning and unlearning destructive narratives and relationships creates space for new possibilities to emerge.
This is the path of reconciliation and regeneration, reciprocity and renewal—and, hopefully, a transition toward evolved states of consciousness and being, with shared responsibility and an expanded capacity for regenerative world-building.
With deep gratitude to all who have contributed to this book, with respect for our ancestors, hope for future generations, and in honor of those working toward what the Anishinaabe’s Seventh Fire prophecy describes as the Eighth Fire—an age of peace—I invite you to engage with this resource.
